line love

i don’t know why, but i love to see lines in a landscape…
especially the rows in a freshly planted field of of corn
 or strawberries or sunflowers....
i love how the rows make a striped pattern.

i love the dark earth in between the fresh green sprouts.

orchards and vineyards also share these  stripes…
in an extra large kind of way

i love the way the lines hug the earth and echo the shape of the hills.

in the spring, i often walked in our neighbour’s field…
between the rows of wheat…it became a walking meditation.
i loved how every day the lines guided me as they grew taller and taller.

eventually though, the crop grew too tall to walk in or see the rows…

i love too how paths create beautiful lines upon the land...
so inviting!

my wee crooked line of just sprouted sunflowers…

it makes me smile every time i drive by these striped fields.
perhaps it is because i love to draw…
or that i love corduroy…or am drawn to patterns..
perhaps it is because there have been farmers’ hands involved…
i am not sure why…but it is a simple pleasure that brings me joy!

do you love lines too?
warm farm hugs,
laura

dads

this is one of my favourite drawings …
“me and daddy doing cannonballs”

it perfectly sums up today…
fathers day and the first day of summer!
two wonderful things to celebrate.
happy fathers day!
welcome summer!
maybe you can do cannonballs this summer with your dad!
sending the warmest, carefree hugs to all the wonderful dads we love…
especially mine!

bittersweet spring

oh the apple blossoms this spring were unbelievably spectacular…..

some years they are all finished within days….
but this year they lingered for weeks. pure bliss!

and ohhh the fragrance! so subtle and sweet.

 it really was magical!

even the baby orchards were brilliant.

part of me wishes the blossoms would last all spring and summer
but we really do farm for a living and need the apples!

it is bittersweet to be in the orchard on breezy spring evenings
 to witness the petals falling.

blossom’s end looks a little like there was a lovely wedding  in the orchard
with confetti everywhere.

sadly, we endured below zero temperatures a few weeks ago.
our valley was hit especially hard.
our bird bath was frozen…
we are still assessing the damage,
but at the moment it looks as though we will
only have a tiny crop to share.
next year will be better.
mother nature, you are full of surprises!

it seems that spring is the shortest season of all!
is that because it’s my favourite?
enjoy these last weeks of spring.
warm farm hugs,
laura
